About the award

Growth isn't only about being bigger—it's really about being better

The Private Business Growth Award, presented by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Grant Thornton LLP, was created to recognize and celebrate the success of Canada's best private businesses. In this spirit, the award shines a spotlight on private companies that approach growth in a strategic, sustainable and holistic manner—and, through their efforts, contribute to the strength of our national economy.

Any company in the business community can be considered for the award, provided the company is a Canadian-owned private business in at least its third year of operation as of December 2017, with minimum annual revenues of $5 million and meets all eligibility criteria. So, if your company qualifies, we encourage you to apply. Or, if you know a company that should be considered for the award, please let us know by making a nomination.

The Private Business Growth Award lets Canadian companies from all regions and all sectors demonstrate what happens when a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a vision for the future and a winning business environment come together.

Hon. Perrin Beatty, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce

Submissions are judged by a jury of Canadian business leaders, who look for evidence of strategic growth across five key areas:

  • innovation
  • expansion into new domestic or international markets
  • development of people and culture
  • improvements in financial measures
  • strategic leadership

The Top 10 Finalists chosen by the jury are celebrated at a gala dinner, where the winner is announced. See photos from the gala celebration.
